The City of Brooks, a small city of approximately 15,000 people in southeast Alberta, sought a private partnership to support the design, build, operation and maintenance of a city-wide next generation broadband network.

IBI Group facilitated the establishment of a consortium of best-in-class companies to build a fiber-optic network, as well as to provide retail-level internet service provider services in the community. In addition, a private equity partnership was created to bring in external investment funds to support the City’s network operations and maintenance services needs.

The completed service delivery is planned for 2022 and it will provide 10 gigabit per second internet connection to over 5,000 homes. Once the network is established, the City of Brooks will become one of the first rural communities in Canada with a high-speed internet connection capable of delivering up to 10 gigabytes per second to every home and business in the area.
