Cloverleaf Elementary School

Originally constructed in 1943, the Cloverleaf Elementary School located in Galena Park ISD was one of six elementary schools scheduled for replacement under the May 2016 Bond Referendum. IBI Group was engaged to provide architectural and interior design services to meet the District’s goal for a next generation design.

The campus is located on a 6.5-acre site bound by four main streets. The school is a hub for the Cloverleaf community and is used by residents as well as students for various community gatherings. The existing campus was renovated and expanded upon on multiple occasions creating a functional campus, however it suffered from the lack of long-range master planning. School operations were continually adapted to the evolving campus.

The District envisioned new buildings with next generation design elements to facilitate teaching concepts that would enhance the learner experience. IBI Group worked on the redesign to meet this goal and to optimize the operation of the facility. The existing, multi-building Cloverleaf Elementary School was demolished initiating the beginning of the design process of a new 114,446 sq. ft. elementary school with associated site work.

Due to site constraints and Galena Park ISD’s project program requirements for an optimum school capacity of 900 students, IBI maximized the two-story design to meet all present day code requirements relative to the site. Academic spaces were configured for age-based usage and to accommodate a variety of small group and student-led learning spaces.

A new generation of minds is reshaping the way we approach education at all levels of learning.
